Cyprus has emerged as a strategic energy hub for the Eastern Mediterranean through a convergence of renewable generation capacity, LNG import infrastructure, and regional interconnections with Greece and Egypt.
Hub Development Strategy
The island's position between European, Middle Eastern, and African energy markets creates unique opportunities for energy trading. With the EuroAsia Interconnector, Cyprus-Egypt Pipeline, and expanded LNG capacity, Cyprus can aggregate renewable generation from Mediterranean solar resources and export through multiple channels to customers across three continents.
The government is developing a Mediterranean Solar Corridor concept—a coordinated regional deployment of solar capacity across island nations and coastal regions, with Cyprus serving as aggregation and trading center.
Economic Positioning
Regional energy hub development creates 8,000+ direct jobs and positions Cyprus as an energy services center attracting investment from major European utilities and international energy traders. Port facilities at Vasilikos and Larnaca will be upgraded to support LNG bunkering and energy product trading.
